STOCKHOLM CONVENTION ON PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS

In order to ensure the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of tasks "On the National Plan for the fulfillment of the obligations of the Republic of Tajikistan under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants" and for ensuring the fulfillment of the obligations undertaken by the Republic of Tajikistan, the considerable works have been done in relation to the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants.

To ensure the implementation of the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated October 31, 2018, No. 791 On the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on the project “Periodic management of pesticides and destruction of pesticides containing dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT) in Central Asia and Turkey " this Agreement was signed by the Chairman of the Committee and the Regional Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Turkey in accordance with the requirement of Clause 2 of the above resolution.

Together with foreign experts, the development of the GEF Project ID 9421 “Off-temperature processing of waste containing dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT) in the Central Asia countries” was completed and submitted to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for review and financing.

The promotion of propaganda works is one of the priorities of the Stockholm Convention. In this process, in order to ensure the fulfillment of Tajikistan's obligations regarding the aforementioned Convention, in cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Mine Action in the Republic of Tajikistan and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) the propaganda works have been conducted among the rural population with the involvement of 3 foreign experts (Dutch, Swiss, American) and OSCE experts and 3 local experts in the Khuroson, Farkhor and Pyanj districts within  22 days. At the same time, leaflets and pictures warning about the negative effects of pesticides and other toxic chemicals were distributed among the population and schoolchildren during this campaign.

The enforcement process of the obligations of the Republic of Tajikistan regarding this Convention and enforcement of regulations of the Government Republic of Tajikistan, decisions of the Board meetings and supervisory meetings under the Chairman of the Committee are under the constant control of the Institution, in the future cooperation will continue with international organizations and stakeholders.
