The sector performs the following tasks:
- Controls and coordinates the activities of the Agency for Hydrometeorology;
- Participates in the development of regulatory legal acts in the field of hydrometeorology;
- Submits requests and proposals for the implementation of state programs and long-term plans in the field of hydrometeorology;
- Works together with the Agency for Hydrometeorology to attract grants and other assistance from international organizations for the development of the field of meteorology;
- Develops state statistical reports in the field of hydrometeorology and submits information to the relevant authorities;
- Strengthens contacts and ties with research and production institutions, establishes cooperation with national and foreign organizations in the field of hydrometeorology;
- Monitors the implementation of international obligations under the conventions on climate change, the protection of ozone layers and projects implemented by the Agency for Hydrometeorology;
- Uses the best practice of other countries in the field of hydrometeorology;
- Provision of methodological and informational assistance to improve the level of observation and forecasting in the field of hydrometeorology, warning of natural disasters;
- Raising the level of meteorological services in the country's economy, introducing and improving new methods of hydrometeorological observations;
- Assistance in the organization of scientific research and cooperation with international organizations;
- Participation in the study and conduct of expeditionary work on glaciers, lakes, as well as checking snow reserves in order to increase the efficiency of water resources use and determine the state of high-mountain ecosystems;
- Assistance to the Agency for Hydrometeorology in providing the population with forecasts on the state of climate change through the mass media;
- Increasing the level of knowledge of personnel (qualifications) through seminars, advanced training in the country and abroad.
