The former National Park of Tajikistan (now the State Institution "Specially Protected Natural Areas" was established by the Resolution dated July 20, 1992, No. 267 of the former Council of Ministers of the Republic of Tajikistan in order to ensure the stability of the biological balance of nature, protection and preservation of rare fauna and flora, specific natural ecosystems, biological monitoring, natural historical monuments, the development of ecological tourism, mountaineering and the implementation of research work on the analysis and assessment of processes affecting natural ecosystems.
The state institution "Specially Protected Natural Areas" established by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 1, 2004, No. 70 "On some issues of the State Committee for Environmental Protection and Forestry of the Republic of Tajikistan" has implemented its activity until February 28, 2014 and was brought into the jurisdiction of the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated February 28, 2014, No. 132 "On the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan".
The State Institution "Specially Protected Natural Areas" was transferred from the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 30, 2020, No. 195.
