Celebration of International Glacier Protection Day in the Capital City – Dushanbe
On March 22, 2025, a high-level forum dedicated to International Glacier Protection Day was held in the “Iram” Park of Dushanbe as part of the international celebration of Navruz. This significant environmental event was attended by representatives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, led by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dilrabo Mansuri, the Executive Authority of Dushanbe, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, ministries and agencies, organizations and institutions, representatives of embassies and diplomatic missions accredited in Tajikistan, as well as domestic and foreign guests.
This event not only continues the celebration of Navruz as a global cultural heritage but is also aligned with the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, in addressing environmental issues, particularly the protection of water resources and glaciers, climate adaptation, and sustainable development. Tajikistan’s international initiatives, including the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” the proposal to declare the International Year of Glacier Protection at the UN, and the establishment of the "Special Fund for Glacier Protection," have received global support and were the focus of discussions during this forum.
During the speeches, it was noted that important high-level international environmental events are ahead, including the International Conference on Glacier Protection within the framework of the Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2021-2025,” which will be hosted by our beloved capital, Dushanbe. Coordinated actions on all issues related to water and glaciers are essential to preserving the planet’s nature for future generations, ensuring ecological security for the population, and protecting all living beings.
As part of the event, along with other organizations and institutions, an exhibition was organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The exhibition showcased photographs and images of the country’s unique nature, particularly its water resources and glaciers. The aim of this exhibition was to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental protection, water resources, including glaciers, and to contribute to reducing the impact of climate change.
Given Tajikistan’s role as a leading country in addressing global environmental challenges, the celebration of this date, with the participation of various representatives and the prioritization of water and climate issues, holds special significance. This event will contribute to strengthening international cooperation in the protection of natural resources, sustainable development, and the implementation of action plans in this area.
