In an important step towards a greener future, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and UNICEF Tajikistan joined forces to organise a tree planting event in the city of Dushanbe. This initiative was conducted within the framework of the “State Greening Programme of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2040,” according to which it is planned to plant two billion trees by 2040. Committee staff, residents of the Shohmansur neighbourhood, youth and UNICEF staff participated in the initiative. As part of the initiative, 500 saplings of coniferous trees were planted. The event was aimed at raising environmental awareness and encouraging active participation in nationwide reforestation efforts in Tajikistan.

As climate change and deforestation are serious problems in our region, such initiatives are important to improve air quality, prevent soil erosion and improve the overall urban ecosystem.

Saidahmad Akrampur, a specialist from the Committee for Environmental Protection, speaking at the event emphasised the importance of such collective action, saying: ‘Every tree planted today contributes to the well-being of future generations. Green Tajikistan is not just a programme, it is a national movement towards sustainability.

Notably, participants of all ages enthusiastically took part in the initiative by planting saplings, watering trees and contributing. The participants expressed their joy in participating in the greening of Tajikistan.

“State Greening Programme of the Republic of Tajikistan until 2040” aims to radically increase forest cover across the country, mitigate climate change and promote biodiversity. Through actions such as “Green Tajikistan 2040,” the country is taking tangible steps towards achieving this goal.
