Joint high-level event by Tajikistan and UAE in Glaciers' 2025 Pavilion at COP29
Within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, a high-level event on “Climate Change and Sustainable Water Management” was held in the Tajikistan pavilion in Baku, organized on the initiative of the Committee for Environmental Protection jointly with the Ministry of ClimateChange and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The event was attended and addressed by the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Sheralizoda B.A., the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, representatives of UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization.
The purpose of this event was to raise awareness of climate change, water protection, and sustainable management, as well as to strengthen political dialogue on the impact of climate change on glaciers and expand international cooperation in this area.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Committee noted the need to implement joint actions to mitigate the effects of climate change on the environment and sustainable management of water resources. He also called on the participants of the event to closely cooperate in the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution declaring 2025 the Year of Glacier Preservation (IYPG2025).
Chairman Sheralizoda thanked the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, UNESCO, and WMO. He invited the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment and partners to participate in an international glacier conservation conference in Dushanbe in May.
In her speech, the Minister of Climate Change and the UAE Her Excellency Madam Al Dahak thanked the CEP Chairman for cooperation and noted that the Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Food Systems and Climate Action adopted at COP28 in Dubai has already been endorsed by 160 countries and is important for adapting food systems to climate challenges. The Minister also spoke about the measures being implemented within the framework of the UAE's "National Food Security Strategy 2051" and the recently launched "UAE Plan: Emirates Blueprint" program, as well as the activities of the National Agricultural Center, which is designed to provide technical support to farmers.
Currently, the Republic of Azerbaijan is holding scheduled events within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC.
