Presentation of the achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of biological diversity at the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity                     

                                          

On October 29 of this year, the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16) was held in the city of Cali, Republic of Colombia, with the participation and speeches of the President of Colombia Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and heads of several states.

The second part of the session was attended and addressed by the Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Sheralizoda Bakhodur.

During his speech, the Chairman of the Committee drew the attention of those present to the achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan in fulfilling obligations under the UN conventions on biodiversity, climate change and combating desertification. The participants of the session were also presented with the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon on declaring May 24 as "International Markhor Day" and declaring 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection, adopted by the UN General Assembly.

It should be noted that the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity is a high-level international event to which representatives of governments, state bodies in the field of environmental protection, scientists and international experts are invited.

The purpose of this conference was to discuss environmental issues at the international level, issues of international cooperation to protect the migration of wild animals and promote global biodiversity goals within the framework of the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Program.

It should be noted that within the framework of this event, dialogues and a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of government bodies on environmental protection and meetings with representatives of international organizations to discuss further industry cooperation were held.
