Meeting between the Chair of the Committee and the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity                   

                                          

On October 28, 2024, within the framework of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity which is held in Cali, Colombia, the Chairman of the Committee Sheralizod Bahodur Ahmadjon, and the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity Ms. Astrid Schomaker met.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols in Tajikistan, as well as several relevant steps. In particular, the parties discussed the implementation of the global project “Supporting preliminary actions in the framework of biodiversity” aimed at assessing previous strategies in the field of biodiversity, defining the goals of the new agreement by the “Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework for the period up to 2030”.

At the same time, the draft update of the national strategy and action plan on biodiversity and preparation of the seventh national communication, which is scheduled to be launched in 2025, were considered.

The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Sheralizoda B.A. also noted that sufficient attention was paid to the issues of implementing initiatives in the field of conservation and sustainable use of hereditary resources and ensuring biosafety within the framework of protocols to this Convention.

Tajikistan was one of the first countries in the Central Asian region to ratify the Protocol, and it implemented several initiatives to strengthen the policy and institutional capacity of relevant agencies.

In general, the meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, and the parties agreed to continue mutually beneficial cooperation at the national and regional levels.
