EVENT DEDICATED TO INTERNATIONAL SOIL DAY
On December 5 of this year, at the initiative of the Aarhus Center of the Committee for Environmental Protection, together with the Main Department of Environmental Protection in Dushanbe, the Sino District Department of Administration, volunteers of the Youth and Sports Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, “green” patrols of educational institution No. 25 of the city of Dushanbe, A “Clean Environment” campaign was held to mark World Soil Day. Participants of the action around school No. 25, pedestrian crossings and sidewalks to the building of the Executive body of state power of the Sino district of Dushanbe cleared of garbage. At the same time, “green” patrols dug holes in the courtyard of the above-mentioned educational institution for planting seedlings.
Then, in the assembly hall of school No. 25, an open lesson dedicated to “World Soil Day” was held with the participation of guests, teachers, “green” patrols and 9th grade students. Students, accompanied by a teacher, presented interesting information about the water initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, as well as about the nature of Tajikistan and the need to protect soils as the sacred duty of every citizen.
It should be noted that soil is an integral part of the habitat of humans, plants and animals, the basis of agricultural activities, and its protection is considered one of the sacred responsibilities of the community. Considering that soil is one of the main elements of life, the UN General Assembly established December 5 as International Soil Day; since 2014, this date has been celebrated in most countries of the world.
At the same time, December 5 is included in the calendar as Volunteer Day. In 2013, the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On the Volunteer Movement” was signed in order to promote good deeds, cultivate hard work and humanity, and participate in public affairs.
According to available data, currently more than 10 thousand volunteers direct their activities to various areas of public life, including environmental protection and sanitation.
It should be noted that by order of the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated July 21, 2022 No. 172, the Regulations of the Eco-Volunteer Club were approved.
Currently, the eco-volunteer club of the Committee has more than 30 students and schoolchildren who contribute to the activities of the Committee on Environmental Protection.
