The tenth of December is International Animal Rights Day. Not many people know that there is a separate World Declaration of Animal Rights. It was developed and introduced 45 years ago. Interestingly, the document was created on the basis of the Declaration of Human Rights. Thus, the authors tried to emphasize that all living beings on the planet have the same rights to life and protection.

The Declaration includes ten articles that protect animals from cruelty. The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights declares the right of animals to live free from pain, suffering, exploitation and death.

The document also obliges people to take care of the animal world, the conservation and restoration of various populations. Now in many countries of the world legislative work is underway, in particular, liability for cruelty to animals is being introduced. In addition, awareness-raising and educational activities are actively carried out on the topic of preserving the animal world and caring for it.

The Red Book of the Republic of Tajikistan is a widely used document in the field of nature conservation and contains a list of rare and endangered species of wild animals in the territory of Tajikistan. According to the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, about 222 species of wild and rare animals are included in the Red Book.

In Tajikistan, special attention is paid to the protection of populations and wildlife. In 2008, the Law “On Wildlife” was adopted, regulating the protection of wild animals.

At the moment, the Law “On Wildlife” is being finalized, and rehabilitation centers have been created for injured wild animals in the Pamirs. Tajikistan also has strategies and programs for the conservation of rare populations. The programs allow us to restore and increase the number of animals that are on the verge of extinction. Among them are the snow leopard, marking goat, Bukhara deer and others.
