Plenary meeting of the Mission of the UN Economic Commission for Europe to the Republic of Tajikistan
On November 7, a Plenary meeting was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with the participation of more than 20 international UN experts, as well as staff of the Committee on Environmental Protection and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies of the Republic.
Today the Committee continues to actively work on improving its environmental performance, and the fourth Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of the Republic of Tajikistan confirms significant achievements in this area. Tajikistan is the first country to conduct the fourth Environmental Performance Review.
EPR is an assessment of the progress made by a state in harmonizing environmental and economic objectives and complying with international environmental commitments. The EPR program assists countries in improving environmental management and environmental performance; encourages information exchange between countries on environmental policy and experience in its implementation; promotes the integration of environmental policy into sectoral policies in selected sectors of the economy; encourages public accountability of government agencies and strengthening cooperation with the international community.
The Fourth EPR in the Republic of Tajikistan emphasizes the importance of sustainable development and environmental conservation for future generations. Tajikistan is proud of its achievements in the environmental sphere and will continue to strengthen its efforts to achieve even greater success.
