New horizon for eco-journalism in Tajikistan
A communication seminar and training for journalists covering climate and environmental issues in Tajikistan was held in the period from October 17 to October 20 within the framework of the project "Adaptation of mammals to climate change in Central Asia" coordinated by UNEP. It should be noted that the communication seminar was organized by the public organization "Abc of Nature of Tajikistan" together with the public organization "CAMP Tabiat" and is aimed at improving the skills of journalists to understand and effectively transmit information about climate change and the relationship between climate change and biodiversity conservation. On October 18, the selecting journalists visited the Dusti district on the basis of the competition, held meetings with representatives of local authorities, jamoats, got acquainted with the living conditions of the local population.
On October 19, a group of eco-journalists visited the territories of the Tigrovaya Balka Nature Reserve and, accompanied by the chief huntsman of this reserve, got acquainted with the unique tugai forest of Central Asia. The journalists also got acquainted with the results of the camera traps, which were installed on October 16.
It should be noted that on November 4 of this year the State Nature Reserve "Tigrovaya Balka" will be 85 years old. It was created by Order of the Council of Ministers of the Tajik SSR No. 1163 dated November 4, 1938 in order to preserve the unique desert-tugai ecosystems and animals characteristic of the southern deserts.
It should be emphasized that during the 45th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of UNESCO's Tangible Cultural Heritage on September 20 this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the tugai forests of the Tigrovaya Balka Reserve were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
After viewing and seeing what they saw in the Tigrovaya Balka Nature Reserve, the journalists had to provide the topic to the jury members.
On October 20, all the journalists who participated in the short expedition provided their visions for the development of materials. At the end of the training, the journalists were awarded certificates of international organizations GRID Arendal and UNEP.
