Establishment of the first regional center on waste management of Central Asia in Dushanbe city
The targeted policy of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on global environmental issues at international, regional and national levels is aimed at solving environmental problems to protect public health and rational use of natural resources, which is regularly supported by the world community.
The adoption of a number of initiatives of the Government of the country by the United Nations General Assembly on water-related issues substantiates this assertion. One of the main environmental problems that is of concern to the world community is the significant accumulation of industrial and consumer waste on the territory of countries with the growth of the world population, which requires the adoption of timely measures.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan proposed to open a regional Waste Management Center in the city of Dushanbe within the framework of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD).
Organization of the Central Asia Regional Waste Management Centre in Dushanbe city will contribute to the development of regional cooperation to reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment, and public health and to create the necessary conditions for waste management, greater involvement of waste in economic turnover as raw materials of reproduction with the support of relevant authorities of the countries and donors for investment.
The main purpose of the organization of this Regional Center is to reduce the negative impact on the environment and human health, joint cooperation for the benefit of all Central Asian countries in the field of modern waste management, transition to a green economy, economic interest of enterprises, organizations, increasing the level of environmental education of the population, prevention of environmental pollution, reduction of waste generation, use of waste as raw materials for the production of household goods.
Objectives of the organization of the Regional Center for Waste Management of Central Asia are to strengthen the capacity of the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development of Central Asia and its structures, the interaction of environmental protection bodies of Central Asian countries in the field of waste management to attract funding from donors, private sectors by individual countries.
The expected result of the regional center can be achieved if all Central Asian countries contribute to solving the problems of waste treatment.
Together with the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development of Central Asia, donors are attracted to implement waste management projects for the Central Asian region.
We hope that the activities of the center will contribute to the solution of existing problems related to waste at the level of Central Asia with the involvement of foreign investments and the private sector.
