Round table on the development of the third edition of the Red Book of Tajikistan

On November 29, 2022, a round table on the preparation of the new (third) edition of the Red Book of Tajikistan was held with the participation of 35 scientists and specialists from the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and relevant ministries and agencies.

The round table began with the opening speech of the first deputy chairman of the Committee, Mr. Kiyomzoda Zarafo, who spoke about the essence and role of the Red Book of Tajikistan in the protection of rare flora and fauna of the country. Also, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Saidov Abdusattor, spoke about the requirements and procedures for the development and publication of the Red Book of Tajikistan. It was noted that according to the requirements of the IUCN, the Red Book should be re-drafted every ten years

During the discussion, the participants discussed research and study of flora and fauna species, collection and processing of scientific materials, classification of species, preparation of a list of new endangered species and preparation of the Red Book of Tajikistan in accordance with the requirements of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The parties agreed to start studying and developing a new edition of the Red Book of Republic of Tajikistan from the beginning of 2023.
