From 7 to 18 November this year, the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt...

The results of the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm el-Sheikh (November 7-18)                  

From 7 to 18 November this year, the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.

It should be emphasized that more than 35,000 participants were registered on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including about 100 heads of state and government from around the world who took part in this event.

The delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of this Conference was headed by the Founder of Peace and National Unity – the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

On November 7 this year, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, held the opening ceremony of the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

It is gratifying that on the margins of the Conference of the Parties during the period of independence of the republic, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and other partners, organized the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan for the first time.

Emomali Rahmon, in his speech at the high-level meeting, touched upon the issue of drawing the attention of the international community to the country's high vulnerability to the effects of climate change, attracting additional investment to adapt key sectors of the country's economy to climate change, as well as declaring 2025 the “International Year for the Protection of Glaciers” and establishment of a specialized "International Fund for the Protection of Glaciers".

It should be emphasized that during the period of the Conference of the Parties, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan organized more than twenty side events in the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan on priority national topics and related to the theme of the conference in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, the United Nations Development Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United States Agency for International Development, the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, the German Society for International Cooperation and the International Organization for Migration, the Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Armenia, The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the Office of the High Representative for the Least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states, Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, World Meteorological Organization held its side events.

In addition, in the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan, all the necessary conditions have been created for holding bilateral meetings of representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other states.

It is worth noting that within the framework of the Conference of the Parties, the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Sheralizoda Bahodur Ahmadjon held bilateral meetings with Steffi Lemke, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection of Germany, John Kerry, Special Envoy of the President United States on Climate Affairs, Ruslan Edelgeriev, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Climate Change, Carlos Manuel Rodriguez, CEO and Chairman of the Global Environment Facility, Frank Rijsberman, CEO of the Global Green Growth Institute, Nawab Ali Khan, CEO Director of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, Sameh Wahba, Regional Director for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia of the World Bank, Yasmin Siddiqi, Director, Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture, Central and West Asia Department, Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi, Dina Saleh, Director of the Middle East, North Africa and Europe Division, International Fund for Agricultural Development and Estefania Ardilya, Director of Country Engagement of NDC Partnership, having discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation in the development of new projects, access to grants and investment projects.

In conclusion, it should be said that the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, plans to hold an event dedicated to the results achieved on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm El Sheikh of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
