Holding a side event on "Roadmap for 2025: International Year of Glaciers" in the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan under the framework of the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP-27)
On November 14 this year, the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization, held a side event on "Roadmap for 2025: International Year of Glaciers" in the national pavilion, organized by the Committee, at the 27th Conference of the Parties in the city of Sharm-Al-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.
This side event was organized to present to the international community the initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to declare 2025 the “International Year for the Protection of Glaciers”.
The event provided an opportunity to discuss at the regional and sub-regional level the issue of preserving the glaciers of Tajikistan, as the main source of fresh water in the Central Asian region. The parties also agreed to continue cooperation in this direction.
As part of this event, there was a dialogue and exchange of knowledge between scientists, politicians and other stakeholders in order to initiate the joint development of a Roadmap of actions to strengthen the capacity of government departments, including the hydrometeorological service.
It is worth noting that Kurbonzoda Abdullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mrs. Elena Manaenkova, Deputy Director General of the World Meteorological Organization and Mr. Igor Shumakov, Head of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of the Russian Federation.
