In June -July 2021, a team led by Mr. Nemonov Giyosiddin, Project Manager, and relevant local consultants visited the targeted districts located upstream and downstream of the KRB within the Project “An integrated landscape approach to enhancing the climate resilience of small-scale farmers and pastoralists in Tajikistan”. The Project is implemented by the Committee for the Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and supported by the United Nations Development Program funded by Adaptation Fund.

The purpose of the visits was to familiarize local authorities with the upcoming Рroject, to strengthen cooperation with local authorities and communities, as well to learn better the potential gaps and opportunities of each targeted location. The field trip also aimed to deeper study the communities in the districts which are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Thus, upon the comprehensive pre-project monitoring and assessment the mentioned and following jamoats have been identified as the most vulnerable to climate change locations:

1.Varzob District- jamoats Luchob and Chorbog

2.Vahdat District- jamoats Rajab Ismoilov, Abdulvosiev, Guliston and Romit

3.Fayzobod District: jamoatsDustmurodAliev and Qalai Dasht

In addition to that, this activity has been undertaken to develop an integrated catchment management strategy for the local authorities of the districts and jamoats. To achieve this result, the authorities at the district and jamoat levels were familiarized with the principles of integrated land and water resources management in order to effectively deal with the impacts of climate change and outputs of the Project. After the data collection that was conducted in line with other activities, an integrated catchment management strategy will be developed with a focus on climate resilience for the regions, using an approach that takes into account the various threats posed by climate risks.
