Inception Workshop «An integrated landscape approach to enhancing the climate resilience of small-scale farmers and pastoralists in Tajikistan»

On March 17, 2021, the Serena Hotel hosted the Inception Workshop of the project implemented by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - «An integrated landscape approach to enhancing the climate resilience of small-scale farmers and pastoralists in Tajikistan»

This Workshop was actively attended by both representatives of government agencies and international organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Swiss Cooperation Office, German Agency for International Cooperation, which showed great interest to this project and the initiative of the Committee.

The Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Sheralizoda Bahodur Ahmadjon and the UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Pratibha Mehta delivered the Workshop opening speech.

During the Workshop sensitive topics of climate change were raised, including consequences of this changes. In addition, vulnerable sectors were noted including small-scale farming and livestock keeping in Tajikistan. The issues related to glacier melting and the implementation of the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy were also mentioned.

Dr. Pratibha Mehta, UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan, in her speech expressed gratitude and confidence that this project will become an engine and a great impetus for the development of resilience not only of farmers and livestock breeders, but also of most of the population and a number of sectors of the country.

At the end of the workshop, participants received new ideas and learned how to apply a wide range of approaches, methods, and tools to improve efficiency and sustainable management to adapt vulnerable sectors to climate change.
