In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 19, 2004 No. 1249 "On some measures to improve the public administration system", the Ministry of Nature Protection was transformed into the State Committee for Environmental Protection and Forestry of the Republic of Tajikistan. Abdulvohid Karimov was appointed Chairman of the State Committee for Nature Protection and Forestry of the Republic of Tajikistan by Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 19, 2004, No.1257 and held this position until 2006.

From 2006 to 2008, Abdurahmon Kodiri served as Minister of Agriculture and Nature Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated February 27, 2008 No. 428 "On further improvement of the structure of the central executive body of the Republic of Tajikistan", the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan established the Committee on Environmental Protection. By the decision of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 135 from March 6 to January 21, 2011, it was headed by Khursandkul Zikirov. By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 21, 2011 No. 14, Salimov Talbak was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and held this position until December 6, 2013. During this period, a special work program was developed, for the implementation of which talented people were invited to vacancies, a new modern procedure was introduced. The regulations of the divisions and departments have been brought into line with the regulations of the Committee in accordance with the requirements of the legislation in the field of environmental protection.
By the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated December 6, 2013 No. 586, Ibodzoda Khairullo was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. During this period, a number of information and propaganda, scientific, methodological, organizational and structural works of the authorities were carried out, which directly contributed to the strengthening of the committee and raising the level and quality of nature protection.
The Committee made every effort to fulfill the instructions of the Head of State in the field of improvement, strengthening state control over the use and protection of the country's nature and achieved a number of successes in this area.
Amendments were made to the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated April 24, 2008 No. 189 by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 3, 2014 No. 162, on the approval of the "Comprehensive State Program for the Development of Environmental Education and Upbringing of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Period until 2020"; a number of normative legal acts, procedures and instructions on state control over the use and protection of the environment, the construction of administrative buildings of departments, departments and divisions of environmental protection in certain cities and regions, dumps of toxic waste in Vakhsh and Kanibadam, ensuring active participation in this work of international organizations operating in Tajikistan, training centers, laboratories, carrying out actions "Cleanliness of the coast", "Cleanliness of the area", "Cleanliness of the road", development and publication of the Second part of the Red Book of the Republic of Tajikistan, translation and publication of this book is published in Tajik, Russian and English languages, strengthening fruitful cooperation with the CIS countries, international organizations, implementing investment projects in the field of environmental protection, ecological safety, health of the village. By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 14, 2019 No. 3 Gulmahmadzoda Davlatshoh Kurbonali was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
