September 16 - International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer

Timed to coincide with the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, declared by the United Nations on September 16, 1994, this day is annually celebrated by the countries of the world by holding promotional events at a high level. The purpose of celebrating this date is to attract the attention of the countries of the world and civil society to the protection of the ozone layer by limiting the production of substances that destroy the ozone layer and, as a result, the complete rejection of the use of such materials.

So every year, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and development partners, the Committee for Environmental Protection held the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer with the involvement of scientists and specialists in the field of scientific and practical activities on the proper use of equipment containing substances that deplete the ozone layer.

Specialists of the Committee and local environmental authorities in the cities and regions of the republic carried out control and explanatory work and state control on the repair and proper use of instruments and equipment containing substances that destroy the ozone layer.

In order to implement the "Comprehensive state program for the development of education and environmental awareness of the population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025" in 5 educational institutions of the city of Dushanbe, with the support of the chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, each institution was awarded 10 Red Data Books of the Republic of Tajikistan. This was made so that readers can learn about the rare flora and fauna of the country and contribute to their protection in the future.

The Agency for Meteorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan also hosted a training seminar dedicated to this important international date, where experts and industry specialists made presentations.

The Republic of Tajikistan joined the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer on November 4, 1995 and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer on November 13, 1997.
