Inception workshop to launch the GEF-FAO project “Facilitating agrobiodiversity (ABD) conservation and sustainable use to promote food and nutritional resilience in Tajikistan”                                                                                  


On August 30, 2022, at the initiative of the National Action Center for Environmental Protection of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an inception workshop was held to present the Global Environment Facility project ““Facilitating agrobiodiversity (ABD) conservation and sustainable use to promote food and nutritional resilience in Tajikistan”” was held with the participation of 50 representatives of relevant ministries and departments, international and non-governmental organizations and representatives of the target areas of the project.

Opening remarks were made at the seminar by the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Ms. Kiyomzoda Zarafo and Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Tajikistan, Mr. Oleg Guchgeldiev. In their opening speeches, they noted the country's policy in the field of environmental protection, biological diversity, the essence and necessity of protecting agro-biological diversity and genetic resources for food security, and the relevance of the project.

According to the program of the seminar, the director of the Center and representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization made presentations and presented the goals, objectives, expected results, project areas and areas of cooperation with project partners.

In the working groups, the participants of the seminar discussed the possibilities of implementing the project, directions of activities with partners, the roles and responsibilities of partners, problems in the field of agrobiological diversity and other issues.
